Kaizer Chiefs transfer news: Leaner to sign for Amakhosi, goodbye Sirino?

Kaizer Chiefs are beginning to make significant moves in the transfer market, having already completed one official signing ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The Soweto giants have also confirmed the departures of George Matlou, Happy Mashiane and Tashreeq Morris as they continue reshaping the squad under new head coach Fernando Da Cruz.

The club’s clear-out may not be over however. Several senior players, including Gaston Sirino, Given Msimango, Pule Mmodi and Ashley du Preez, are reportedly facing uncertain futures and could leave Naturena in the coming weeks.

Kaizer Chiefs to release more players

Sirino appears to be among the most likely departures after an underwhelming campaign. The 35-year-old Uruguayan managed just one goal in 27 appearances across all competitions and struggled to make a consistent impact, whether as a starter or coming off the bench.

On the incoming front, Chiefs are closing in on the signing of Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Renaldo Leaner.

According to SABC Sport, Kaizer Chiefs could conclude a move very soon.

“The public broadcaster established that Chiefs have now tabled a firm offer to the Bafana Bafana goalkeeper, with only the final formalities, including personal terms and a medical, still to be concluded before the move is completed.”

“The latest development marks a significant turnaround in the race for Leaner, who had attracted strong interest from both Pirates and AmaZulu following confirmation of his departure from Sekhukhune.”

Kaizer Chiefs have already begun pre-season training and are expected to accelerate their transfer business as they prepare for the new campaign, with both further arrivals and departures anticipated before the window closes.

Should Sirino be released?
