Bafana winger to be loaned out

A Bafana Bafana winger could be loaned out before the current transfer window closes.

Luther Singh has not been training with FC Copenhagen’s first team as he looks to get a loan move to help him play regular football in the 2022/23 season.

The player, who in one year has only had seven appearances for the Danish champions, is in desperate need of a change of scenery. His club coach recently admitted that he is not the first choice in the left-wing position.

Copenhagen’s sporting director Peter Christiansen has revealed to local publication Copenhagen Sundays that they are looking for a loan for the Johannesburg-born winger.

”Luther is off to look at an opportunity, and I think that it will also be the best thing right now for him in terms of getting closer to playing time. He also needs to play after a personally tough year,” he explained.

Asked whether the move would be permanent or a loan, Christiansen said anything is possible at the moment.

“It can be both. When you bring up that possibility, around Luther Singh, people typically say, “is there anyone who wants to touch a player who hasn’t played -how do you handle it?

“I can say that he is one of the players who has had the most interest because people cannot understand why he has not played more in Copenhagen, but it also says something about what kind of quality we have and what is in front of him.

“But this is a player who played fantastically for South Africa and who had a really good season before we brought him here, so he is definitely not forgotten out there, and there are many who are watching him, and if they can link him, so let’s see.”

Singh joined FCK barely a year ago but had a difficult start at the club, to which he arrived late and was then kept from playing due to passport and visa problems.

After his arrival, he started well before being hit by an illness which ultimately led to him not playing competitive football for the past nine months.

It remains to be seen where the 24-year-old will be playing this season, but several reports suggest that a return to Portugal could be on the cards.

Coach Hugo Broos had included Singh in his squads until the attacker had visa problems and sickness also hit him.
