Former Miss South Africa Shudufhadzo ‘Shudu’ Musida believes the next titleholder should be more than a beauty queen—she should be a woman of purpose, compassion, and resilience.

Having used her reign to champion mental health awareness and empower young people across the country, Musida says the Miss South Africa crown carries a responsibility that extends far beyond the stage. She believes the woman who earns the title should be authentic, confident, and committed to making a meaningful impact in her community.

Speaking to The Sowetan, Musida was asked what stood out about the Top 24 girls this year. She shared that she was amazed by the diversity the girls brought.

“From business owners, actuaries, professors, and entrepreneurs. Each woman brings something unique to the table. No matter who wins Miss SA, I believe every one of them will make a meaningful difference.”

Authenticity was the first one she went with, wanting the girls to be believable in what they stand for. She also highlights resilience as an essential characteristic, explaining that the journey to becoming Miss South Africa requires determination, discipline, and the ability to overcome challenges while remaining true to one’s values.

As the Miss South Africa competition continues to evolve, according to The Sowetan, Shudu continued hopes to see a winner who represents the diversity, strength, and ambition of South African women.

“She believes the next queen should be someone who is prepared to use her voice to advocate for important social issues and leave a lasting legacy beyond her reign.”
