Fernando Da Cruz has arrived in South Africa, has started work at Kaizer Chiefs
Kaizer Chiefs’ new coach, Fernando Da Cruz, has officially arrived in South Africa and has joined the team at Naturena as preparations for the 2026/27 season get underway.
Da Cruz arrives with a stellar reputation, having spent the last two seasons as the Technical Director for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation. There, he was responsible for football development in Morocco, working with youth teams, coaches, and the national team, which successfully reached the round of 16 in the 2026 World Cup.
Speaking after his arrival, Da Cruz said he is very excited to begin his new role.
“I am very happy to be here. Kaizer Chiefs has always held a special place in my heart, and I have been following what has been happening at this club over the past two years,” he said.
“Kaizer Chiefs is a massive club with a rich history and passionate fans. What is important for me right now is to build good relationships with the players, instill a winning mentality, and work together to achieve the success that our fans deserve. The journey ahead will require hard work and unity, but I am confident that we will succeed.”
The team is already in its second week of pre-season training, and the technical staff had been continuing with the work while Da Cruz’s arrival was being finalized.
Chiefs’ Sporting Director, Kaizer Motaung Jr, welcomed the new coach, saying his arrival opens a new chapter for the club.
“We are happy to welcome Coach Da Cruz to Kaizer Chiefs. We believe he will bring new energy and a vision that will help the team get back on the path to success. With the support of our fans and the dedication of the players, we are looking forward to a great season,” said Motaung Jr.
Da Cruz has already met with all the players and club staff and is expected to fully take charge of the pre-season preparations, where Amakhosi will be looking to return to winning trophies.
