Veteran Namibian forward Peter Shalulile has officially ended his six-year stay at Mamelodi Sundowns.
The 32-year-old joined the Tshwane giants from Highlands Park in September 2020 and went on to establish himself as one of the club’s most successful strikers.
Confirming his departure on Thursday, Sundowns paid tribute to Shalulile’s contribution during his time at the club.
“Thank you, Sha Sha,” the club posted on X.
“Peter Shalulile departs Mamelodi Sundowns as one of the club’s most prolific forwards. Thank you for the goals, trophies and the commitment in yellow. All the best for what comes next, Peter.”
In a farewell video released by the club, an emotional Shalulile reflected on his journey at Chloorkop, describing it as a memorable chapter in his career.
“The journey has been good; it’s been amazing. Coming to a club where there are top players is difficult, but with all the hard work, discipline and dedication, I have managed to get a number of records and also trophies,” he said.
He expressed gratitude to Sundowns chairman Thlopie Motsepe for the support he received throughout his time at the club.
“I would like to thank the chair. He has been an amazing person.”
Shalulile also thanked the club’s board for making his move from Highlands Park possible despite the challenges encountered during the transfer negotiations.
“And the board. It was difficult for them to get me because there were ups and downs. They were fighting to get me when I was at Highlands Park. I salute and thank them for bringing me here to Sundowns,” he said.
He extended his appreciation to the club’s former leadership and president Patrice Motsepe for giving him the opportunity to wear the Sundowns jersey.
“Even the previous people who were here, I thank them. It’s not a goodbye, because you never know where you’ll end up. And the president for giving me this opportunity.”
Shalulile leaves Sundowns with an outstanding record of 107 goals in 228 appearances, having helped the club win numerous domestic honours.
His final season was less productive than previous campaigns, with the striker finding the back of the net six times in 23 appearances across all competitions.
