A bus transporting Malawian nationals to a repatriation centre in Musina, Limpopo, crashed near the Beitbridge Border Post on Tuesday, 30 June 2026.

The driver died in the crash, while at least 11 people were injured.

According to Eyewitness News, all injured passengers have since been transported to hospital.

The bus was travelling from KwaZulu-Natal to the Musina repatriation centre when it crashed shortly after midnight.

The Limpopo Department of Transport said preliminary investigations suggest driver fatigue may have caused the crash.

Bus veered off road

The bus was travelling northbound when it veered off the road.

It then fell off a small bridge and crashed through steel barriers.

Images from the scene showed the vehicle badly damaged, with passengers’ belongings scattered around the wreckage.

The passengers were later moved to safety.

Authorities believe the driver was the only person who died in the crash.

Road remains open

Limpopo Department of Transport spokesperson Mashudu Mabata said the road remained open to traffic after the crash.

However, he warned motorists that temporary closures could still be implemented.

“The road remains open to traffic at this stage. However, motorists are advised that temporary closures may be implemented to allow forensic investigators to conduct their work safely,” Mabata said.

He added that motorists should expect delays while investigators carry out their work.

Law enforcement and emergency services have since left the crash scene.

Repatriation journey disrupted

The crash comes as Malawian nationals are being transported to the Musina repatriation centre.

The centre is being used as part of the process to move people back to Malawi.

The crash has now disrupted one of those journeys.

The Limpopo Department of Transport said investigations are continuing.

Officials are expected to confirm the full details of the crash once forensic work and preliminary assessments are completed.

Motorists travelling near the Beitbridge Border Post have been urged to remain cautious and prepare for possible delays if temporary road closures are introduced.
