Ramaphosa Fires Two DA Ministers

Posted on July 1, 2026

President Cyril Ramaphosa has officially dismissed two Democratic Alliance (DA) deputy ministers after receiving recommendations for changes to the party’s representatives in the executive from its new leader, Geordin Hill-Lewis.

Former Deputy Minister of Electricity and Energy Samantha Graham-Mare and former Deputy Minister of Water and Sanitation Sello Seitlholo made their departures public by posting the president’s letters of dismissal on Facebook.

Both letters, signed and dated 30 June, expressed Ramaphosa’s appreciation for their contributions during their time in office.

Their removal follows a communication from Hill-Lewis to the president in which he proposed a reshuffle of DA members serving in Cabinet and other executive positions.

It remains unclear whether other DA deployees identified for removal or reassignment have also received formal notification from the Presidency.

Among those whose positions are reportedly under review is former DA leader and current Agriculture Minister John Steenhuisen.

The developments point to an impending reconfiguration of the DA’s representation in the Government of National Unity, with additional changes expected to emerge in the coming days.
