Former Bafana Bafana and Kaizer Chiefs striker Siyabonga “Bhele” Nomvethe has melted hearts after celebrating his 23rd wedding anniversary with his wife, Nompumelelo Mpanza.

“Happy 23rd anniversary to my beautiful wife, the mother of my two beautiful children, and my partner for life. I love you,” Siyabonga Nomvethe wrote in the heartfelt post, which quickly attracted thousands of likes and congratulatory messages from fans and fellow football personalities.

A love story spanning more than two decades

Nomvethe and Mpanza have long been admired for keeping their relationship largely out of the spotlight while building a strong family foundation. The couple got married in 2002 and have remained together throughout the highs and lows of the football star’s illustrious career.

Over the years, Nomvethe has frequently acknowledged his wife’s unwavering support, crediting her as one of the key pillars behind his success both on and off the field. Their enduring marriage continues to inspire many South Africans, particularly at a time when long-lasting celebrity relationships are increasingly rare.

Social media celebrates the couple

Friends and fans flooded the comments section with congratulatory messages, praising the couple’s enduring love and wishing them many more years of happiness together.

“Mndeni wami [my family],” commented media personality Minnie Dlamini.

Spreading love and warmth, musical legend Ihhashi Elimhlophe also took to the comments to leave some fire emojis and hearts.

“Love is beautiful, congratulations,” added another Instagram user.

“I respect vou so much because you the man of the people. You a man that is a family man. You a man of sport,” said one more.

Nomvethe remains one of South Africa’s most respected football figures, having enjoyed a distinguished career with clubs including Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates, Moroka Swallows and AmaZulu, while also representing Bafana Bafana on the international stage.

Even in retirement, he continues to receive admiration not only for his football achievements but also for the example he sets through his commitment to family life.
