When Swallows took on Orlando Pirates on Saturday, there were five new faces confirmed, that hadn’t been officially announced by the club.

Swallows lost 1-0 to Pirates in their opening fixture of the DStv Premiership season at Orlando Stadium.

Two of those new players were in the starting line-up, while there were also three players on the bench, who have joined the club.

Gregory Damons started at right back, having joined from Cape Town Spurs, where he featured last season. The former Chippa United player is one of a number of players who left Spurs at the end of the last campaign, a list which also includes Toriq Losper and Bevan Fransman.

Meanwhile, Tshediso Patjie was also in the Swallows’ starting line-up, the former Mbombela United and Baroka player spent last season at Sekhukhune United.

Three others were on the bench – Nicholus Lukhubeni, who spent last season on loan from Mamelodi Sundowns at both Sekhukhune and Maritzburg United; Naeem Amoojee, who was with Tshakhuma in the second tier; and Siboniso Mtshali, who has spent the past few years in Turkey and Cyprus.

This was on top of other new recruits like Thakasani Mbanjwa, Lindokuhle Mtshali, Kwanda Mngonyama, Waseem Isaacs, and Keegan Allan who were also in the squad.

Swallows also surprised when Musa Nyatama was on the bench as assistant coach and led the team due to Dylan Kerr not having been issued his work permit yet.
