Smith Set For Europe Return After Chiefs Trial

Darren Smith looks set to return to Europe after Kaizer Chiefs decided against offering him a contract following a brief assessment.
Smith, 25, was invited for a training assessment at Chiefs last month after leaving Botola Pro outfit AS FAR, where he was the first-ever South African to play in the Moroccan top flight.
While his stint saw him win the Moroccan Throne Cup and qualify his side for the CAF Confederation Cup with a third place finish behind Wydad AC and Raja AC, Smith’s lack of match fitness after arriving on January deadline day saw him unable to stake a regular claim for first-team football before his eventual exit.
Chiefs, who have notably in search of a striker invited him to train with the first-team squad but he left without securing a deal with the club seeking a player with ‘different qualities’ who’s able to be the focal point of their attack in the 2022/23 season.
iDiski Times have been informed Smith has now applied for his visa to return abroad, with will take around 11 to 14 days as he weighs up his options on his next deal.
During his two seasons in Finland, the former Ajax Cape Town and SuperSport United man netted 31 goals and registered nine assists in 61 games across all competitions for Ekanas and Honka respectively.
Burundi international striker Bonfils-Caleb Bimenyimana has also said to have been informed he will not be signed while another trialist Dove Edmilson is likely to be added to the squad.
