Outgoing KwaZulu-Natal premier Sihle Zikalala is disputing claims that he betrayed former President Jacob Zuma and aligned himself with President Cyril Ramaphosa. Zikalala said he has backed Zuma since 2005 and that his support is organisational rather than personal.
Zikalala resigned as premier just weeks after his bid to be re-elected as provincial ANC chairperson failed. At the political level, there are those who’ve accused us of betraying former President Jacob Zuma.
“I wish to make it clear that I have supported him since 2005 until today [Friday]. I supported him as a leader and someone who’s sacrificed his life for South Africa to be liberated,” he said.
