Al Ahly have again dropped points as Percy Tau returned to the field of play under huge VAR controversy.

The South African winger made his first appearance since picking up an injury in late June, but had returned to the match day squad against Pharco.

Tau started the match on the bench but replaced Mohamed Hand in the 62nd minute. The winger didn’t take long to find the back of the net but his goal was controversially ruled out by VAR.

Al Ahly wasn’t able to find the back of the net against eighth-placed Pharco and dropped league points for a sixth time in 11 matches since Pitso Mosimane left.

The Club of the Century have now dropped to 10 points behind leaders Zamalek, who have played one more game. But even a win in their catch-up game would only see Al Ahly close their gap on Zamalek to seven points.

The White Knights have six games more to play and look nailed on to successfully defend their league title, with second-placed Pyramids also sitting seven points behind Zamalek.
