Zimbabwe international Evans Rusike will form part of the new-look Swallows attack who open up their season against Orlando Pirates this weekend.

Rusike, 32, has joined the Dube Birds after impressing the technical team during his assessment, having been released by Sekhukhune United last month.

He’ll now be aiming to kickstart his career in Soweto after seeing it severely stall during his time at Babina Noko and SuperSport United over the past four years.

With close to 150 games in the South African top-flight he adds major experience to Dylan Kerr’s attack which holds Kagiso Malinga, Mwape Musonda, Daniel Gozar and Waseem Isaacs who joins from Stellenbosch.

Another former Sekhukhune forward, Tshediso Patjie has also been spotted at the club and is expected to form part of the team that lost the services of Dillan Solomons, George Matlou, Kamohelo Mahlatsi, Fawaaz Basadien, Ruzaigh Gamildien and Khetukuthula Ndlovu during the off-season.

“We’re done signing and I’m very happy where we are at the moment, obviously, time will tell who will be the starting eleven,” Kerr confirmed to iDiski Times.

“Last season we did well and it showed by six of my players being signed. We had the second most chances created in the league behind Sundowns but we weren’t finishing our chances so I won’t change much [in terms of tactics]. I don’t want to be in the playoffs ever again and hopefully, we can move forward with the new Swallows team and surprise a few people.

“We’ve signed Rusike who’s a handful, we’ve got the Ghanian who was at Black Leopards on loan last season [Daniel Gozar] and he looks a handful as well.”

Swallows travel to the Orlando Stadium to face the Soweto giants on Saturday afternoon at 15h00 for their opening league encounter.
