Banyana Banyana and Stayfree Launch Goals 4 Pads Initiative to Empower Young Girls

Banyana Banyana and Stayfree have officially launched the Goals 4 Pads initiative today, Friday, a programme aimed at empowering young girls through football while helping them remain engaged in sport, education and their future aspirations.

The initiative seeks to use the influence of South Africa’s senior women’s national football team to address challenges facing young girls, including period poverty, which often affects school attendance and participation in sport. Similar programmes across South Africa have highlighted the importance of providing menstrual hygiene support to ensure girls can remain in school and pursue their goals.

The launch event featured a recorded address from SAFA CEO Lydia Monyepao, who is currently in the United States with Bafana Bafana following the national team’s recent victory over Japan.

Among those in attendance were Dawn Lubisi, SAFA Head of Women’s Football, Banyana Banyana head coach Desiree Ellis, SAFA officials, national team players, representatives from Kenvue and Stayfree, community beneficiaries, sports influencers and members of the Stayfree Soccer Collective.

The partnership is expected to combine football development with community upliftment, using the power of women’s sport to inspire confidence, promote education and create opportunities for young girls across South Africa.
