Kaizer Chiefs Appoint Fernando Da Cruz As New Head Coach

Kaizer Chiefs have officially confirmed the appointment of Fernando da Cruz as their new Head Coach, signing the Frenchman on a two-year contract with a one-year extension option, effective 1 July 2026.

The highly regarded tactician brings a wealth of elite European and African experience to Naturena. Born in France, Da Cruz holds the prestigious UEFA Pro Licence the highest coaching qualification in global football.

His impressive resume includes critical developmental and technical roles at French Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille, where he excelled in scouting, academy leadership, and bridging the gap to the first team.

Crucially, Da Cruz is no stranger to the unique demands of African football pressure cookers. He previously enjoyed a highly successful stint in North Africa with Moroccan giants AS FAR, leading them both domestically and in CAF club competitions.

Most recently, he served as the Technical Director for the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, overseeing the strategic growth of one of the continent’s most successful football structures.

This appointment marks a homecoming of sorts; Da Cruz worked briefly with Amakhosi during their pre-season preparations two years ago, leaving a lasting impression on the club’s leadership.

Now returning to take total control of the first team at the beginning of July, Da Cruz is tasked with restoring the Soweto giants to their former glory, utilising his elite tactical pedigree to build a competitive squad capable of challenging for silverware in the Betway Premiership.

Welcoming the coach, Chiefs said in a statement: “Kaizer Chiefs are pleased to confirm the appointment of Fernando da Cruz as Head Coach. He has signed a two-year contract with a one-year option, effective 1 July 2026.”
