Leopards’ new forward likened to Peter Shalulile
Black Leopards coach Joel Masutha has tipped newly signed Namibia forward Bethuel Muzeu to excel at the club, likening him to his high-riding countryman Peter Shalulile of Mamelodi Sundowns.
Muzeu was spotted while playing for the Brave Warriors in the COSAFA Cup as they went all the way to the final. The second-tier side, Leopards, have signed him on a one-year deal, and the player has featured in pre-season-friendly matches for the club.
Masutha, who guided Lidoda Duvha to safety last season after finding them in a precarious position, believes the 22-year-old forward has everything it takes to emulate his international teammate Shalulile.
The reigning Footballer of the Season, Shalulile, started his career at Highlands Park before being snapped up by the DStv Premiership champions at the start of the 2020/21 season.
“[What he’s doing] It’s exactly what we saw; we scouted him at Cosafa. The way he was playing is exactly the way he’s doing for us. He is very much mobile. He runs a lot more like Shalulile.
“In terms of energy, they are the same. He’s also hungry for goals. He is quality. The guy is so fit. He’s one of the fittest in our team,” Masutha told FARPost.
“I’m playing him as a number 9; I like people who get involved in play and speed. That’s what made us fight to bring him to this side.”
He is convinced Muzeu, who also played for Shalulile’s former team Tura Magic, has a bright future ahead of him.
“To me, when I see him doing his things, I see the Shalulile at Highlands Park. Of course [Shalulile], he has improved a lot also based on the quality of the team he’s playing for. This boy, I can tell you, will go very far.”
The highly rated striker told FARPost that he was eager to help the club gain promotion to the DStv Premiership.
“It feels good to be here. I like it here. There is so much love from my new teammates. Going forward, our target is that we want to gain promotion to the top-flight league. We will try all our best,” he told FARPost.
The former youth international scored when the Brave Warriors beat Mozambique in the quarterfinal of the COSAFA Cup. He was part of Namibia’s team that played in the 2019 Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
