Premier League giants Arsenal have confirmed the new club captain who will lead the team at the beginning of the 2022/23 PL season, taking the reigns from Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who joined La Liga giants Barcelona after falling out of favour at the club.
23-year-old Martin Odegaard has been handed the armband by manager Mikel Arteta putting all his trust and faith in him to lead the team.
The former Real Madrid midfield maestro linked with the London outfit in January 2021 on a loan deal before a permanent deal was sealed following a successful spell.
In the famous Arsenal colours, the Norway international has made 60 appearances across all official tournaments, finding the back of the net nine times.
In his first interview as skipper, Odegaard revealed his joy and excitement in leading a great club.
“Of course, I was happy, proud and grateful for the trust and for him [Mikel Arteta] wanting me to be the captain. That’s a big achievement for me, and it’s nice to be part of such a good team, so I’m going to enjoy that,” Odegaard told the club media.
“Yeah, of course, it’s important that we all take leadership, not just about me or a few people, but I think everyone needs to take the lead and do what’s best for the team, so everyone has to do that.”
In breaking the news, Arsenal shared on their socials, including their website.
“Introducing our new captain…..Martin Odegaard,” Arsenal posted.
