Gavin Hunt itching to return to touchline

SuperSport United coach Gavin Hunt has said he is itching to return to the touchline in the 2022-23 DStv Premiership season, having been out of action for eight months.

“Another day at it. Itching to be back on the touchline!” he tweeted on @gavinhunt12 on Thursday.

The tweet for the former Kaizer Chiefs trainer has since excited some of his followers on the social media platform.

In reply on @thabisojerry10, Thabiso Jerry tweeted: “Lol and be playing with your crocks, coach. Hope you gonna be displaying city football because you once been there to spice your experience.”

Jerry said this in reference to education visits the former Bidvest Wits mentor made to Manchester City in England months ago.

Another follower, Dr Molefi Masilo on @Rivaldo150, chipped in, saying: “All the best to you and your team coach. As an Amakhosi fan, I wish you nothing but the best. We are Champions League finalists because of you. Thank you for everything, coach.”

Chiefs parted ways with Hunt in May 2021 over poor domestic league form, which, ironically, was in sharp contrast to an impressive run in Africa as he steered the Soweto giants to the CAF Champions League semifinal only to be sacked.

Two months later, Hunt relocated temporarily to Chippa United, where he lasted barely five months before the trigger-happy management suspended him for good in November 2021.

The long-awaited return to the big stage of Mzansi football happened earlier this month of July when SuperSport reunited with their former coach, who won them three consecutive PSL championships from 2007/08 to 2009/10, plus a Nedbank Cup trophy.

He replaced Kaitano Tembo, who is now at the helm of Sekhukhune United.

SuperSport United chief executive Stan Matthews welcomed Hunt describing him as a family member.

“Bringing Gavin back is like welcoming a family member home. He has a great history with our club, and his coaching record speaks for itself,” Matthews told the SuperSport website.

Hunt’s technical team includes Andre Arendse, Thabo September, Roscoe Krieling and Grant Johnson.”
