Jub Jub Arrested After Alleged Shooting at Edenvale Complex

Moja Love star Molemo “Jub Jub” Maarohanya was arrested Sunday morning after an Uber driver alleged the celebrity presenter pulled a gun and fired a shot at him outside a Greenstone residential complex.

According to a police report seen by Africa Daily, the incident unfolded at 07:30 on 14 June 2026 at Emerald Sky Units, Edenvale. Preliminary police report states the driver had arrived to drop off a female passenger when Maarohanya, 45, confronted him and accused him of dating his girlfriend.

Police say the confrontation escalated as the driver left the premises. The Uber driver told officers Maarohanya allegedly discharged a firearm. The driver sped off and reported the shooting at the nearest police station. No one was injured.

The report states that one empty cartridge was recovered at the scene. Edenvale SAPS said a K9 unit was deployed to search for the weapon. Maarohanya told police he does not own a firearm. The Local Criminal Record Centre processed the scene for ballistic and forensic evidence. A case of attempted murder was opened at Edenvale Police Station .

Maarohanya was arrested and remains in detention pending further processing. He is expected to appear in court once the docket is finalised. Police stressed he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

The arrest throws Maarohanya back into the spotlight for the wrong reasons. He first became infamous in 2010 when he and co-accused Themba Tshabalala were convicted of culpable homicide and reckless driving after a street race in Soweto killed four children. Maarohanya served four years before his release and later rebuilt his career as a reality TV host and presenter on Moja Love.

That past makes Sunday ‘an allegations even more jarring. A man once convicted for deadly recklessness now faces claims he put another life at risk with a firearm over a personal dispute. The charge of attempted murder carries serious weight under South African law and signals police believe the act was intentional, not negligent.
Ballistics tests, witness statements, and K9 results will determine whether police can prove the gun was his and whether the shot was fired as alleged.

If convicted, Maarohanya faces the possibility of years behind bars.
Moja Love spokesperson Nonzwakazi Cekete could not be reached for comment at the time of publication.

This is a developing story.
