AFROTAINMENT BOSS DJ TIRA FINALLY SPEAKS OUT ABOUT THE ABSENCE OF FACT DURBAN ROCKS AT THIS YEAR’S DBN JULY EVENT

“When a ram steps back, it does not mean it is fleeing, but rather that it is gathering strength.”

These are the words of DJ Tira following the cancellation of his marquee at the Hollywoodbets Durban July event, which takes place at the Greyville Racecourse on July 4.

For years, DJ Tira, whose real name is Mthokozisi Khathi, has organized the Afrotainment Marquee, which is well-known for attracting celebrities and high-profile artists.

However, this year, it is notably missing from the list of confirmed marquees at the racecourse.

“I do not have a marquee this year. I did not get funding from sponsors to host it, so I decided I will see about it next year,” said DJ Tira.

He added that because he does not have a marquee, he has chosen to focus on a new event he launched alongside Kabza De Small called Durban Hotbox.

It will take place at Sunkist Lawns near the Suncoast Casino on July 4.

“Essentially, I have given birth to a new baby because I am no longer doing Fact (Durban Rocks) either,” said the veteran DJ and event organizer.

Last year, he and the co-owner of Fact Durban Rocks, Chad White, announced that their December 31 event would be their last.

This event traditionally took place twice a year—on the day of the Durban July and on New Year’s Eve.

The duo had organized over 30 editions before announcing they were selling the brand.Tira mentioned that, as of now, Fact Durban Rocks has not been bought by anyone.Explaining his new venture, he said the event will start at 2 PM and run until midnight.

“I decided to pause the marquee to focus on building Hotbox because it is going to be big. There will be Durban Hotbox, Joburg Hotbox, and Cape Town Hotbox. Since I am launching it now, I want to make sure it goes well. I will attend the Durban July, but I won’t have a marquee,” he stated.

Tickets are already available at Ticketpro, starting from R350 up to R1,200 for VVIP. The performance lineup will include Durban’s Finest (DJ Tira and DJ Sox), Kabza De Small, and many others.
