Nomzamo Mbatha isn’t letting the social media noise dim her crown.

The celebrated actress and TV producer has addressed the ongoing attention surrounding her natural hair, declaring that every style she wears tells a story.

This week, the Shaka iLembe star was at the centre of an online frenzy after singer Simphiwe Dana accused her of imitating her hairstyle. B

ut rather than fuel the drama, Mbatha took the high road and used the moment to reflect on the personal and political power of her hair.

In a recent interview with Sowetan, the actress explained that her hairstyles are never random, they’re deliberate expressions of identity, mood, and message.

“Hair can be a political statement depending on where I am and which carpet I’m walking on,” she said.

“You look at me at the Met Gala, that hair was specific. I said: ‘This is what we’re going to do because we are commanding a space.’”

Whether she’s sporting a bold pixie cut or letting her natural curls bask in the sun, Nomzamo says her hair is always in conversation with the world around her.

She also sent a message to mothers, urging them to nurture confidence in their daughters from a young age by being mindful of how they speak about hair.

“The sooner they embrace their hair, the better relationship they’ll have with their self-esteem,” she said.
