Dudu Myeni slapped R120 000 fine for the obstruction of justice

Former SAA chairperson Dudu Myeni has been slapped with a fine of R120,000, alternatively two years’ imprisonment, on charges of obstructing the administration of justice.

This after she intentionally unmasked the identity of an anonymous witness known as “Mr X” at the state-capture inquiry in 2020.

Myeni was sentenced by the Johannesburg magistrate’s court on Wednesday and opted for the fine, half of which is suspended.

Her lawyer also said Myeni admitted to the wrongfulness of her action and has not tried to evade justice.

Myeni was in court on Wednesday. After proceedings she went to pay a R30 000 portion of the fine. A second payment of R30 000 must be paid on or before 29 August. The remaining R60 000 was suspended.

Her conduct was criticised by the civil society watchdog Right2Know Campaign, which accused her of placing an “important whistle blower in harm’s way.”
