How Banyana success has inspired Kaizer Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs’ marketing director Jessica Motaung has revealed that the club will invest in women’s football in the near future. The Soweto giants have set their sights on forming a Kaizer Chiefs Ladies’ team that will challenge Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies.

This comes after Banyana Banyana’s triumph in the 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations that was hosted in Morocco. Coach Desiree Ellis’ charges success has caught the eye of many soccer lovers calling stakeholders to invest more in women’s football.

The South African women’s league is still developing and its heading towards the right direction. This is evidenced by Mamelodi Sundowns Ladies after they were crowned the inaugural champions for the Women’s CAF Champions League.

“It’s something we’ll invest in. Kaizer Chiefs is a big brand [and] forming a women’s team to compete with the likes of Sundowns will be a good thing and will promote healthy competition in the league,” said Motaung on SuperSport TV.

“Banyana Banyana’s success inspired me. I will dedicate myself to this, making sure that this dream is a success and becomes a reality. It’s time we give women’s football a lot of attention in this country.”

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Jerry Tshabalala who was present at the show is of the same view of that their rivals Amakhosi should form a ladies team.

“I totally agree with Jessica, this will improve ladies football in this country and our league will develop and benefit from having more teams. Kaizer Chiefs is a big club,” said Tshabalala.

Chiefs venturing in women’s football will be a dream come true for Amakhosi faithful who have been for years begging the club supremos for the formulation of the team.
