South African actress and singer Anlia Etzebeth will add a touch of star power to the 130th edition of the Hollywoodbets Durban July when she performs the national anthem ahead of the country’s premier horse racing event on Saturday, 4 July.
The much-anticipated record R10 million race will take place at Hollywoodbets Greyville Racecourse, where thousands of racegoers are expected to gather for a day combining world-class racing, fashion, music and entertainment.
Memorable rendition
Anlia is no stranger to major sporting occasions.
She previously delivered a memorable rendition of Nkosi Sikelel’ iAfrika at the Cape Town Stadium in 2022 when her husband, Eben Etzebeth, celebrated his 100th Springbok Test appearance with a man of the match performance.
Excitement
The couple, both Hollywoodbets brand ambassadors, expressed their excitement ahead of this year’s event.
“It is always such an incredible honour to sing our National Anthem. It is even more special to get to sing it at this year’s Hollywoodbets Durban July. I cannot wait,” Anlia said.
Known to television audiences through roles in the TV series Raised by Wolves and popular soap operas Getroud Met Rugby and Suidooster, Anlia has built a successful career across both acting and music.
Meanwhile, Eben remains one of South Africa’s most recognisable sporting figures.
The lock forward is the most-capped Springbok in history with 141 Test appearances and currently plays for the Sharks after returning to South Africa from France in 2022.
Equestrian heritage
This year’s Durban July theme, “Country Allure”, encourages racegoers and designers to draw inspiration from South Africa’s rural landscapes and equestrian heritage.
As the iconic event celebrates its 130th running, organisers are promising another spectacular showcase of sport, fashion and entertainment at Hollywoodbets Greyville.
Tickets for general admission, picnic sites, hospitality packages and parking are currently available through Ticketpro.
