Inside Prince Harry and Meghan’s ‘challenging’ financial situation

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are reportedly facing a challenging financial situation after walking away from the institution.

PRINCE HARRY AND MEGHAN MARKLE WANT TO BE ‘SELF-FUNDED’

A source told the Mirror that Prince Harry and Meghan are finding it more “challenging” since they became financially independent and walked away from the institution. The Duke of Sussex and Meghan quit their roles as senior working members of the royal family in 2020 and moved to the US to start a new life with their two kids. Prince Harry and Meghan are parents to four-year-old Princess Lilibet and seven-year-old Prince Archie.

“[The couple] no longer have a Sovereign Grant to support them, nor access to multiple homes maintained at public expense, whether through rent-free arrangements or nominal rents,” said the source to the publication.

“But what they do have is an independent and entirely self-funded life – one that nobody else has to pay for and nobody else needs to worry about funding…unlike the Royal Family. Is it right that they, that working members of the Royal Family should have their finances scrutinised, absolutely. They should be treated the same as any other public institution or body,” the source continued.

This came after claims that Meghan was the “breadwinner” at their home.

MEGHAN MARKLE ‘BREADWINNER’ AT HOME

The Duchess of Sussex is reportedly focusing on growing her lifestyle brand As Ever, after parting ways with Netflix. Sources told Page Six, that Prince Harry is focused on his philanthropic work, which doesn’t bring in much money.

“Money is tight,” said a source to the publication.

Another source tells the publication that Meghan and Prince Harry need at least $6 million (R97 549 740) a year for operating expenses in the billionaire enclave of Montecito, California. The couple reportedly spend around $3 million (R48 774 870) of that on private security for their family, which was previously revealed.
