What happened to Thando Sonqishe and Oscar Baxx?

On Thursday, 28 May 2026, Thando and Oscar were travelling in a Toyota bakkie that was riddled with more than 10 bullets. The two men died while two other passengers were wounded. They were transported to a hospital by emergency paramedic personnel to tend to their injuries.

The incident occurred outside Blue Valley Golf and Country Estate in Midrand, reportedly the residence of one of the deceased. It is unclear why the two men were targeted.

A statement from the Blue Valley Homeowners Association (BVHOA) read:

“As an additional precautionary safety measure, Fidelity Security Services, the BVHOA’s appointed security service provider, has deployed additional tactical armed guards to patrol and monitor the Estate and surrounding areas in order to further enhance the safety and security of all residents.”
