‘We cross paths again’: LaConco rocks mining industry!

Media darling Nonkanyiso “LaConco” Conco keeps proving that she truly is a Jill of all trades. On 28 May, she announced on Instagram that she is set to rock the mining industry with a new project in the Mpumalanga province.

LACONCO TAKES ON THE MINING INDUSTRY

Laconco is venturing into the world of coal mining; however, this isn’t her first rodeo. She had previously tried to explore this industry in 2022 but faced many challenges that caused her to pause.

The mother of one mentioned that her hard work is fuelled by her son Sakhaumuzi Zuma, whom she shares with former South African president Jacob Zuma.

The SAFTA award-winning TV presenter wrote the following caption describing her return to coal mining.

“Dear coal, we cross paths again. I was first introduced to coal business by a good female friend back in 2022 (see last two slides),” she began.

“Entering the world of commodities opened my eyes to both opportunity and the harsh realities of greed, betrayal, loss and dishonesty. It became overwhelming, and I had to step away,” she added.

“I am here ready to learn, grow, build meaningful relations, and understand this industry that powers economies, communities, and infrastructure. The smell of the dust, the sound of the machines, and the energy of this environment fulfills my heart,” she wrote.

LACONCO VENTURES INTO FARMING

The year was 2025 when LaConco revealed that she was dipping into farming. She posted a series of photos from the farm where she was surrounded by goats, while dressed in khaki overalls, a typical farmer’s uniform.

LACONCO’S PASSIONATE ABOUT WOMEN EMPOWERMENT

Another thing about LaConco is that she is not shy about sharing her gifts and talents with the world. In May 2026, she announced another edition of her women empowerment event set for August 2026 in Muldersdrift, Johannesburg.

This time it will be in the form of a retreat, “Where rest meets refinement and women come together to restore, rise, and bloom.”

Taking to Instagram, she wrote “A beautiful overnight of rest, healing, laughter, connection and sisterhood awaits.”

Through her organisation, Sikhanyisa iSizwe, LaConco has produced empowering initiatives such as the Women in Conversation seminars and Maiden Camps.

However, the organisation does not solely focus on women empowerment programmes. In 2019, she visited schools in rural Nkandla, KwaZulu-Natal, where she imparted pearls of wisdom with the learners about the importance of education, among other topics.
