Sol Phenduka drops bombshell claim about Sizwe Dhlomo’s successor at Kaya 959

Sol Phenduka speaks about Sizwe Dhlomo’s replacement on Kaya 959

Sol Phenduka has sparked fresh speculation about the future of Kaya 959’s breakfast show after claiming that veteran broadcaster DJ Fresh could be the station’s choice to replace Sizwe Dhlomo permanently.

The podcaster and radio personality made the claims during a recent episode of Podcast and Chill with Mac G, where he shared what he described as insider information about the events that unfolded following Sizwe’s departure from the station.

Sizwe surprised listeners when he announced that he would be leaving Kaya 959 after six years behind the microphone.

Although he initially indicated that he would remain on air until his contract expired in July 2026, the station later confirmed that his exit had taken effect immediately.

According to Sol, sources within Kaya 959 informed him that management decided to fast-track Sizwe’s departure shortly after he made the announcement on air.

“Today he announced, but obviously the contracts at Kaya end in June, and he was supposed to continue doing the show, but these birdies there at Kaya told me that the manager was like, ‘It’s immediate effect now.’ So, tomorrow, which is today, he might not be doing the show. And if we didn’t do the show, then you know that.

“Because on the show he said, ‘Yeah, I’m still around. I will see my contract through.’ And then I think after he announced it, it now became immediate effect. I don’t know why, how,” Sol said.

Following Sizwe’s exit, Kaya 959 appointed Thomas Msengana as interim host of the Breakfast Show while the station searches for a permanent replacement.

The station has since confirmed that a new breakfast team will be announced in June.

However, Sol believes Thomas may only be keeping the seat warm.

He alleged that DJ Fresh is being considered for the role, while also claiming that former Kaya 959 managing director Greg Maloka could make a return to the station.

“The birdies spoke more. They said it’s Fresh who’s taking over to do the show. And then the birdies said also, Greg might be coming back,” Sol claimed.

The comments have ignited debate among radio listeners, with many wondering whether Kaya 959 is preparing a major shake-up for its breakfast lineup.

Neither Kaya 959 nor DJ Fresh has publicly addressed the speculation.
