Zee Nxumalo schools trolls on latest Spotify milestone

Amapiano star Zee Nxumalo has defended her latest career milestone after a social media user attempted to downplay her appearance on a Spotify billboard in New York.

The singer recently celebrated the achievement by sharing a photo of the billboard on X, proudly revealing that she had been featured as part of Spotify’s EQUAL Africa programme, an initiative that highlights and celebrates women making an impact in the music industry.

While many fans congratulated her on the international recognition, one social media user suggested that the accomplishment was nothing more than a paid promotion.

“You paid,” the user commented.

Amused by the accusation, Zee responded by questioning the claim.

“I Paid for a billboard in New York? lol,” she wrote.

The exchange didn’t end there.

Another user joined the discussion, arguing that someone must have funded the billboard placement.

“lol yes it’s paid for… might be your or your label or distributor but it’s paid for,” the person replied.

Zee, however, was quick to set the record straight, explaining that the billboard was part of Spotify’s recognition programme and not something she had purchased herself.

“1. Fix your grammar!

2 this is a Spotify billboard, they picked me to cover their billboard…

You can’t pay for accolades, you earn them.”

Her response quickly resonated with supporters, many of whom praised the singer for standing up for her achievements and educating critics about the Spotify EQUAL initiative.
