Agent Mike Makaab has reiterated Kaizer Chiefs were the only South African club they considered for Kobamelo Kodisang as he completes a loan move in Portugal.
Kodisang, 22, is set to be announced on a season-long deal by GD Chaves on Tuesday with the newly-promoted Primieria Liga side holding an option to make the deal permanent at the end of the season.
It ended a long-protracted contract saga with a courtship of the South Africa youth international that began last when his contract was set to expire at the start of this month.
But Braga, his parent club, put a spanner in the works by activating a two-year option to extend and could not come to an agreement with Amakhosi on a transfer fee over the past two months.
“To clear the matter, right from the start we said we’d never allow him to be loaned to a team below the Portuguese Premier League because that was the intention, they wanted to loan him to a second division team,” Makaab said on Gagasi FM.
“We said we were not interested and that’s why we engaged with Kaizer Chiefs. Again I said to Chiefs they’d be the only South Africa club we’d engage with.
“Unfortunately, though nobody’s fault, the two clubs could not come to an agreement and we’re pretty excited [about the new loan].”
Kodisang joins the likes of Luther Singh who also made the switch between the two club’s to gain experience in the elite level of Portuguese football.
