Hunt Opens Up On Monare Talks

New SuperSport United head coach Gavin Hunt has opened on the talks he’s had with Thabang Monare before Orlando Pirates’ recent u-turn.

Monare, 32, was named as one of the players who had left the Buccaneers this window, but the club seemingly made a u-turn after initially announcing the club and player couldn’t agree to terms.

AmaZulu, SuperSport United and Sekhukhune United were among the interested suitors but new Bucs coach Jose Riveiro was understood to be keen to access the player.

Hunt also confirmed that he was already in talks with Monare and would’ve been keen to bring him to SuperSport United before he got “intercepted” by his former club.

“I think he got intercepted on the way to the chairman’s office,” he told Thabiso Mosia in a recent interview on SAFMSportOn.

“He phoned me and said ‘look I’m free’. I said ‘I haven’t got a job yet, but I look after you if something happens.

“Obviously they took him back.”

Pirates are yet to make an official announcement on Monare’s future, while the players did give a strong hint on social media about his return to the club.
