BMA Commissioner to Conduct Urgent Beitbridge Visit After Public Outcry
Following a wave of public criticism on social media regarding border officials’ work ethic, the Border Management Authority (BMA) has confirmed that Commissioner Dr Michael Masiapato will conduct an urgent operational visit to the Beitbridge Port of Entry on Thursday (28 May 2026).
The visit comes after provincial authorities intercepted minibuses and buses transporting undocumented foreign nationals, a major concern for law enforcement.
Departmental Spokesperson Mashudu Mabata said the situation necessitates convening stakeholders to strengthen interventions addressing illegal movements and ensuring compliance with South African laws.
During the visit, Commissioner Masiapato will meet with key law enforcement agencies, including SAPS, SANDF, SARS, and Traffic Management. He will also engage bus and taxi operators operating in the Beitbridge area to streamline compliance measures.
A site inspection of vulnerable areas around Beitbridge will also be conducted.
