  • Former minister Naledi Pandor was allegedly robbed at gunpoint at her home while suspects held her husband hostage and stole valuables.
  • The incident sparked mixed reactions online, with many social media users linking the robbery to South Africa’s broader crime crisis affecting ordinary citizens daily.
  • Pandor currently serves as Chancellor of Nelson Mandela University after assuming the role in April 2026.

Former Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Naledi Pandor was robbed at her home after unknown suspects held her at gunpoint.

According to police information, Pandor was not alone at the time of the incident, but was with her husband, who was allegedly forced into the bathroom by the attackers while they ransacked the property.

The suspects reportedly fled the scene with several valuables.

Acting National Police Commissioner Puleng Dimapane said police are working around the clock to ensure that those responsible for the crime are brought to justice.

“Police are working around the clock to trace and apprehend those responsible. The District Commissioner of Tshwane, Major General Samuel Thine, will visit the family to provide an update on the progress of investigations, as well as ongoing policing interventions aimed at combating housebreaking and property-related crimes,” said Dimapane.

Pandor’s house robbery sparked mixed reactions on social media, particularly on X, where many users showed little sympathy following the incident.

Some social media users argued that crime is a phenomenon affecting vulnerable South Africans daily and said it was therefore not surprising that Pandor also became a victim of crime.

Others went as far as saying it was important for cabinet ministers and political leaders to experience the realities faced by ordinary South Africans, amid ongoing concerns that government officials are often out of touch with the country’s crime crisis.

Dr Naledi Pandor currently serves as the Chancellor of Nelson Mandela University, a position she assumed in April 2026.
