Unathi Nkayi Arrested for Alleged Drunk Driving

Media personality and former Idols SA judge Unathi Nkayi was reportedly arrested for alleged drunk driving following an altercation with Johannesburg Metro Police Department (JMPD) officers in Randburg.

According to Sunday Times, the incident took place on 16 May on Boundary Road in Robindale, Johannesburg, during a late-night JMPD operation. Police confirmed that a drunk driving case was opened against Nkayi after officers stopped her vehicle. She was later released on bail pending further investigation and blood test results.

The incident allegedly escalated after Nkayi objected to officers searching her vehicle, leading to a heated exchange with a female JMPD officer. Nkayi subsequently opened a crimen injuria case at Linden Police Station, claiming the officer used derogatory language during the confrontation. Police said investigations into both matters are ongoing.

Nkayi has not publicly commented in detail on the allegations and our calls went answered.
