What Mnisi Said About Letsoalo-Chiefs Talks

After Victor Letsoalo signed for Sekhukhune United in a surprise move, many fans were wondering about the relatively low fee after Kaizer Chiefs were told he costs R20 million.

Letsoalo, 29, joined Babina Noko in a deal worth just R3 million, as reported by iDiski Times on Wednesday.

Many were left wondering about the relatively low fee after Chiefs were reportedly quoted around R20 million for their first approach in January.

At the time, Royal AM chairman Sinky Mnisi insisted that Chiefs need to pay up if they really wanted the striker.

“Initially there was never something like that until Bobby Motaung spoke to MaMkhize and proposed ‘is it possible for you guys to sell [Victor] Letsoalo’ and we told them that we are very open to sell the player but they must give us an offer that we will never reject,” Mnisi later told iDiski Times journalist Sinethemba Makonco on Zibonele FM.

“I think that’s when I said to Kaizer Chiefs ‘you want to drive a Mercedes Benz but you want to pay a price of Mazda 323’.

“If Kaizer Chiefs want Victor Letsoalo, who is the top striker in South Africa other than Peter Shalulile, they must pay the money that he is worth, because he’s scoring goals.

“People want to get good things but they don’t want to pay for those things. It doesn’t work like that anywhere in the world. You want a good player you must pay good money.

“Chiefs should refrain, I respect them, they are a good team but Kaizer Chiefs wants free agents and all that, it cannot work like that.”

Mnisi’s stance and the massive price-tag left the player and Chiefs equally dejected, with the club seemingly moving on to other targets and eventually signing Ashley Du Preez.

Many at the Amakhosi might have been surprised to have seen the Bafana striker join Sekhukhune in a deal worth just R3 million – much less than the R20 million they were quoted.
