SARS workers affiliated to the Public Servants Association and trade union Nehawu in Alberton have joined their colleagues nationwide on an indefinite wage strike.

Workers are demanding a 12% wage increase, while the employer is offering 1.3%.

Lwazi Nkolonzi, Nehawu national spokesperson, said that they have embarked on indefinite strike after an impasse after salary negotiations.

“Our members are quite clear that the demands they paste before SARS, they are adamant that SARS can meet their demands,” he said.

In May Nehawu embarked on a strike when SARS said they would offer them 0% wage increase, during that strike SARS then offered its employees a 1,3% wage increase which the members have rejected.

Finance minister Enoch Godongwana said Sars had been allocated a total of R34.3bn “to build the capacity of human resources and implement ICT projects”.

Nehawu spokesperson Lwazi Nkolonzi told taxi times that they would continue with their strike until their demands are met.

Nkolonzi further stated that SARS doesn’t care about its employers

“If SARS cared, they would have sat down with us a long time ago and we found solutions,” he said.
