  • A cut-off low-pressure system will sweep across South Africa’s central and western interior from Tuesday into Wednesday.
  • The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has warned of a sharp plunge in daytime temperatures alongside widespread showers.
  • Gauteng residents will experience an abrupt shift to thick cloud cover, biting winds, and persistent rain.

The South African Weather Service has issued an advisory for a developing cut-off low-pressure system that will grip the interior of the country.

This weather phenomenon is set to trigger a sharp decline in daytime temperatures, bringing overcast skies, strong winds, and scattered thundershowers.

Simultaneously, a yellow level 2 warning has been issued for damaging coastal winds between Table Bay and Cape Agulhas, which will disrupt maritime navigation from Monday evening.

For those living in Gauteng, the arrival of this system means an abrupt end to recent mild weather. Residents will need to brace for a noticeably colder, overcast Tuesday and Wednesday, accompanied by isolated to scattered thundershowers.

The combination of gusty winds and rain will drive down comfort levels significantly, making outdoor activities unpleasant and increasing the demand on the local power grid as households turn to indoor heating.

As the cold front moves through, motorists across the province are urged to exercise caution on the roads, as sudden downpours and reduced visibility could create hazardous driving conditions during peak commuting hours.

The weather service advises everyone to wrap up warmly and prepare for a genuinely wintry spell of weather over the mid-week period.
