Four people have been killed and a seven-year-old child injured in a suspected gang-related shooting in Wesbank, Kuils River.

The shooting happened on Saturday night in Strandveld Street.

Police spokesperson Colonel Andre Traut said SAPS officers responded to reports of gunfire at around 8pm. When they arrived, they found four adults with gunshot wounds.

Victims Declared Dead at Scene

The victims were three adult women and one adult man.

They were aged between 32 and 39.

Medical personnel declared all four dead at the scene.

Traut said: “The victims were declared deceased on the scene by medical personnel.”

A seven-year-old child who was injured in the shooting was taken to a nearby medical facility for treatment.

Police Investigating Gang Link

Police believe the shooting may be gang-related, but the full circumstances are still being investigated.

Traut said preliminary investigations suggested a possible gang link.

The case has now been handed to the Serious and Violent Crime Unit.

Police are investigating four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.

No arrests have been made so far.

Public Urged to Help Police

Police have urged anyone with information to come forward.

Traut asked residents who may know anything about the shooting to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.

Information can also be shared anonymously through the MySAPS mobile app.

The shooting has again placed the spotlight on violent crime in parts of Cape Town, where communities continue to live with the threat of gun violence.

For families in Wesbank, the attack has left another neighbourhood grieving and another child caught in violence no child should ever face.
