Members of the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) Tactical Response Unit (TRU) have arrested a 20-year-old man in connection with a carjacking that caused widespread public alarm online.

Upon entering the premises, tactical officers discovered two men and a woman. One of the male occupants matched the physical description of the assailant captured in the footage.

When confronted by the TRU team, the suspect claimed he had been preparing to hand himself over to the police at the Jabulani SAPS station. He was immediately detained and taken into custody.

JMPD Chief of Police, Commissioner Patrick Jaca, highly commended the operational team for their swift coordination and diligence.

The department reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to targeting violent criminals who prey on public transport and e-hailing services, vowing to ensure that perpetrators face the full might of the law.
