Official: Kaizer Chiefs announce new CEO

Shongwe has been part of Kaizer Chiefs for several years. The Soweto giants have now revealed that he has moved from a non-executive director role to being the Group Chief Executive Officer.

He is resuming a second official role since serving as Amakhosi’s Managing Director (MD) between 2009 and 2012.

KAIZER CHIEFS CONFIRM BHEKI SHONGWE APPOINTMENT

“Kaizer Chiefs are pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Bheki Shongwe as the new Group Chief Executive Officer of the Club, effective May 2026,” the club announced.

The club said Mr Shongwe will oversee the club’s day-to-day operations, reporting directly to the Chairman and the Board while working closely with department heads.

He will also assist Chairman Dr Kaizer Motaung with the overall running of the organisation, ensuring the club continues to thrive both on and off the field.

The note concluded to say the club welcomes Mr Shongwe back to the Amakhosi fold and wished him success in his new role, expressing confidence in his leadership as it continues to build on its proud 56-year legacy.

MORE ON HIS BACKGROUND

Away from football, Shongwe has established a respected corporate career, having served as chairman of Flow Communications and Evraz Highveld Steel & Vanadium.

Originally from Eswatini, he also has football roots, having played for Manzini Wanderers and Gaborone United before moving into the business world.

Academically, he holds an MBA in Strategy and Finance from the University of South Australia, complemented by studies in Economics and Accounting.
