Water interruption hits Kalafong Hospital as burst pipe disrupts services

Kalafong Hospital in the City of Tshwane is currently experiencing water interruptions due to a burst pipe near the railway station.

The pipe burst on Wednesday, 13 May 2026.

Gauteng Health spokesperson Steve Mabona said the affected areas include the Outpatient Department (OPD) clinics, Human Resources offices, the Casualty section and the Resuscitation Unit.

“Notwithstanding, critical areas such as Maternity, operating theatres, wards, the mortuary, facility management unit and food services remain operational.

“To ensure continuity of healthcare services, the hospital has an existing water storage capacity sufficient for two to four days, bolstered by two boreholes, four sectional tanks and a reservoir,” said Mabona.

Outpatient appointments in affected clinics are being rescheduled, while members of the public seeking non-emergency medical care have been advised to visit alternative healthcare facilities until the water pressure stabilises.

The department has apologised to patients and the public for the inconvenience caused by the service interruptions.
