Mamelodi Sundowns suffer double suspension blow

Mamelodi Sundowns travel to Mbombela Stadium needing victory to strengthen their grip on the league title race. With Orlando Pirates still pushing hard behind them in the standings.

However, coach Miguel Cardoso has now been handed a fresh selection headache after right-back Khuliso Mudau. The Bafana Bafana star picked up his fourth yellow card of the campaign during the’ high-scoring encounter against Siwelele FC.

SUNDOWNS DEALT MAJOR BLOW BEFORE TITLE DECIDER

Mudau joins midfielder Jayden Adams on the suspension list. This leaves Sundowns short of experience ahead of one of their biggest domestic matches of the season.

The absence of Mudau will force Cardoso into changes at the back. Zuko Mdunyelwa is expected to step into the starting line-up against Galaxy.

Sundowns are already dealing with injuries elsewhere in the squad. Cenral defender Keanu Cupido has been ruled out with a fractured collarbone.

The timing of the suspensions could not have been worse for Masandawana, especially with the CAF Champions League final against AS FAR Rabat fast approaching later this month.

Sundowns currently sit on 68 points from 29 matches and know that any slip-up could open the door for Orlando Pirates in the title race.

TS GALAXY HAVE TROUBLED SUNDOWNS BEFORE

While TS Galaxy are struggling near the bottom half of the table, they have already shown this season that they can trouble the league champions.

The Rockets knocked Sundowns out of the Nedbank Cup earlier this year with a shock 2-0 victory, while they also managed to beat Masandawana 1-0 in the league earlier in the campaign.

Galaxy may be winless in their last seven league matches, but they still have an opportunity to finish their season strongly by completing a rare double over Sundowns.

For Cardoso and his players, the mission remains simple, avoid another upset and move one step closer to yet another Betway Premiership title.
