Kaizer Chiefs strongest XI which could beat Sundowns

Kaizer Chiefs travel to Pretoria to face Mamelodi Sundowns at Loftus Versfeld Stadium on Wednesday evening in a high-stakes Betway Premiership clash.

The encounter between the two South African giants could significantly influence the title race.

Should Sundowns secure all three points and Orlando Pirates fail to beat Stellenbosch FC, the title will almost certainly remain in Chloorkop. However, anything less than a victory for Masandawana could open the door for Pirates, provided they overcome Stellies in Cape Town.

Strongest Chiefs line-up to challenge Sundowns

Goalkeeper: Brandon Petersen

Petersen impressed with a Man of the Match performance in last month’s Soweto Derby against Pirates, playing a key role in disrupting their title ambitions. The 31-year-old will be crucial if Chiefs are to secure a rare league win over Sundowns.

Defence: Thabiso Monyane, Inácio Miguel, Aden McCarthy, Bradley Cross

This back four arguably represents Amakhosi’s most solid defensive unit. Miguel’s leadership, alongside Petersen’s experience, will be vital against one of the most potent attacking sides on the continent.

Midfield: Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Lebohang Maboe

Chiefs’ midfield trio delivered an impressive performance against Pirates, effectively limiting their attacking threat. The technical team is likely to retain this combination to neutralise Sundowns’ dynamic midfield.

Attack: Wandile Duba, Pule Mmodi, Flávio Silva

Duba has been in excellent form in recent months and remains one of Chiefs’ key attacking outlets. He is also among the last Amakhosi players to score against Sundowns, alongside Ashley Du Preez.
Mmodi is expected to start on the left wing, while Silva will lead the line as Chiefs look to penetrate a well-organised Sundowns defence.
