The young girl was raped on Monday afternoon by a 25-year-old man who lives in Katlehong, east of Johannesburg, according to TimesLIVE. The daughter lived in this area with her sister and grandmother, while Kenny Motsamai and his wife live in Sebokeng.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane confirmed to TimesLIVE that a suspect was arrested in connection with the rape and appeared in court on Wednesday.
“A murder charge will now be added because the victim was still alive when the suspect made his first court appearance. The prosecution had not been told the victim was allegedly poisoned. The case was postponed for a formal bail application,’ she said.
Motsamai is the EFF’s second member to lose a daughter in heinous circumstances. Godrich Gardee, an EFF member and lawyer by profession, tragically lost his daughter Hilary in April after she was kidnapped, raped, tortured, and eventually killed in Mpumalanga.
Her body was discovered a few days later. An extensive investigation resulted in the arrest of suspects directly linked to the crime. The suspects, Sipho Mkhatshwa, Philemon Lukhele, and Mduduzi Nkala, are all charged with murder conspiracy, kidnapping, rape, murder, firearm possession, and defeating the ends of justice.
Their case is still being heard in the Mbombela Magistrates’ Court.
