Soweto derby starting 11s: Kaizer Chiefs make surprise pick

The wait is over. Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates lock horns as the FNB Stadium in the Betway Premiership at 15:00.

Amakhosi have made an unexpected call with Pule Mmodi starting his first match since 6 April. Mduduzi Shabalala has dropped to the bench while Lebohang Maboe will play in the number 10 role.

CONFIRMED STARTING LINE UPS:

With the Sea Robbers at the top of the league with five games to go, their bitter rivals Amakhosi could be the difference between winning and losing this championship.

Kaizer Chiefs starting line up: Brandon Petersen, Brandon Cross, Aden McCarthy, Given Msimango, Thabiso Monyane, Sibongiseni Mthethwa, Lebohang Maboe, Siphesihle Ndlovu, Glody Lilepo, Pule Mmodi, Wandile Duba.

Substitutes: Bruce Bvuma: Reeve Frosler, Inacio Miguel, Thabo Cele, Ethan Chislett, Mduduzi Shabalala, Flavio Da Silva, Mfundo Vilakazi, Asanele Velebayi.

Orlando Pirates starting line up: Sipho Chaine, Kamohelo Sebelebele, Nkosinathi Sibisi, Lebone Seema, Deon Hotto, Makhehleni Makhaula, Thalente Mbatha, Relenbohile Mofokeng, Tshepang Moremi, Oswin Appollis, Yanela Mbuthuma.

Orlando Pirates head into Sunday’s Soweto derby against Kaizer Chiefs as notable favourites after a 3-0 win in the first round.

But two months is a long in football, especially with Amakhosi enjoying a run of six games without tasting defeat.

WHAT’S AT STAKE

The Buccaneers come into the battle as the log leaders with 58 points, while Amakhosi sit third with 46 points. Mamelodi Sundowns, sitting second with 57 points, only play later on Sunday away to Richards Bay FC at 17:30.
