- Several Johannesburg areas are without power amid cold and wet weather conditions.
- City Power says restoration efforts are underway but may be delayed due to the weather.
- Residents are urged to reduce electricity usage to ease pressure on the network.
Several areas in Johannesburg are experiencing power outages this weekend amid ongoing wet and cold weather conditions.
Most residents in the city of Johannesburg find themselves without electricity as temperatures drop.
However, City Power has called on customers not to panic, saying the utility is making steady progress in restoring power supply across affected areas.
“City Power would like to advise customers that current inclement weather conditions may impact response and repair times across several areas. As a result, we appeal to customers to use electricity sparingly where possible,” said City Power spokesperson Isaac Mangena.
Mangena says the power system remains constrained, and high electricity demand during peak periods places strain on already stressed infrastructure, increasing the risk of overloading, trips and unplanned outages.
Customers are encouraged to switch off non-essential appliances and reduce unnecessary consumption to help ease pressure on the network.
