DJ Sumbody’s family slams ‘reckless’ drug-linked murder claims

DJ Sumbody’s family release statement in response to drug allegations

The family of late music star DJ Sumbody has broken its silence after explosive claims resurfaced linking his murder to a stolen drug consignment.

Recent reports, sparked by a leaked affidavit from a close associate, suggested that the DJ’s killing may have been tied to criminal activity within Gauteng’s nightlife circles.

The document also alleged that the unnamed friend had been assisting police while facing threats to his own life.

As the theory gained traction online, it reignited speculation around the circumstances of the 2022 shooting that claimed Sumbody’s life alongside his bodyguard.

In response, the Sefoka family issued a strongly worded statement, distancing themselves from the claims and expressing frustration over the renewed attention driven by what they describe as unfounded narratives.

“As the family of the late Oupa John Sefoka, popularly known as DJ Sumbody, we are deeply disturbed by the article published on 19 April 2026 and by the false, reckless, and baseless allegations that have since circulated in public discourse and across social media platforms,” the statement read.

The family made it clear that they would not be drawn into debating claims circulating outside formal legal channels, stressing that the matter remains before the courts and should be handled accordingly.

“This matter remains the subject of an ongoing legal process, and the merits of the case are still before the courts. We have full respect for the judicial process and the criminal justice system currently unfolding, and for that reason, we will not entertain false and baseless allegations made outside of that process,” they said.

They further warned against the continued spread of unverified information, revealing that their legal team has been alerted and is prepared to take action where necessary.
