Marumo Gallants Chairman Dr Abram Sello has confirmed the club has acquired a Women’s Team as part of their vision to develop South African football.

Gallants celebrated their one-year anniversary today in a special event hosted in Sandton where the new-look technical team lead by 31-year-old Romain Folz, the management, players and media were present.

The club launched a new ‘supporters’ shirt and three new players ahead of the 2022/23 season while more incoming signings were promised by the chairman after consulting the incoming head coach who succeeds Dan Malesela.

A sense of optimism surrounds the club which was formed after buying the top-flight status of Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila, having qualified for the CAF Confederation Cup for two consecutive seasons by virtue of reaching the Nedbank Cup final but Sello also confirmed they are investing in a Women’s team too.

“We acquired it at the end of the season after being promoted, they were at the lower league and they were promoted,” Sello said on Wednesday at the media launch.

“Our belief is that we working together, we work together in leadership. It was our idea, our dream and our desire. A long with CAF, when I checked with our PSL, we are not yet at that stage we are consulting.

“If you got the opportunity now then it’s the right time to grow with it. We promised our nation, that we are here to stay and develop our community, to make change, to make progress for our people both young and old.

“We’ve got the DDC and then the ladies club comes in and we promised and we want to deliver our promise to develop and bring changes for people in football.

“They are in the provincial level in the Sasol League, so far they are doing well and we’re looking to take them up and with our entire technical team we will try and grow that team while we maintain our status in the DStv Premiership.”

Gallants also confirmed that their home games will remain in Limpopo at the Peter Mokaba Stadium next season despite recent speculation of a venue change.
