Date change for Orlando Pirates vs Kaizer Chiefs Soweto derby

Posted on April 20, 2026

Tickets for this weekend’s highly anticipated Soweto derby between Orlando Pirates and Kaizer Chiefs have sold out, with another sell-out crowd set to gather for South Africa’s biggest football fixture.

The previous meeting between the two sides in February – won 3-0 by the Buccaneers – was also a sell-out.

Historic rivalry continues

The upcoming encounter will mark the 185th official meeting between the two Soweto giants, extending one of African football’s most storied rivalries.

The match has been rescheduled to Sunday, 26 April at the FNB Stadium, shifting from the original Saturday date due to logistical considerations around the Nasrec precinct.

The timing favours travelling supporters, with Freedom Day falling on Monday, 27 April.

Kick-off is scheduled for 15:00.

Bragging rights

There is plenty to play for in the match – besides bragging rights.

Orlando Pirates are involved in a ding-dong battle for the Betway Premiership title, with Kaizer Chiefs looking to play spoilers as they still have to face both the Buccaneers and Mamelodi Sundowns.

CAF spots are on the line for both sides as the season draws to a close.
