On Wednesday, 15 April, Thobeka Majozi announced on Instagram that she is taking over the running of the family hotel in Durban, KwaZulu-Natal.

THOBEKA MAJOZI TAKES OVER FAMILY HOTEL IN DURBAN

Thobeka said that her original proposal to her mother was to establish a coffee shop café within the hotel, but her mother decided to entrust her with running the entire hotel instead.

“Not only have I gotten into a new business venture but I’m also bringing you along with me as I figure this out because I’m just a girl,” she began.

“What are we figuring out? Well, we have many businesses under our family umbrella. Mainly for legacy, inheritance, [and] generational wealth,” she added.

“One of them being this boutique hotel based in La Lucia, Durban … So, I approached my mother to open up my coffee shop café at this establishment, but lo and behold, she handed me the keys for the entire boutique hotel,” she continued.

THOBEKA IS WILLING TO LEARN AND EMBRACE NEW IDEAS

Regarding her new position as a hotel owner, Thobeka said, she remains open to learning and embracing new ideas.

“So not only am I building a coffee shop café, but I’m also now officially an owner of a boutique hotel. And I just want to remind you that I’m just a girl,” she continued.

“So come with me as I take you along with me while I figure out this new venture. I’m taking you along with me for the love, support, accountability, and insight of do’s and don’ts,” she added.

“Fortunately, my mother always strived for excellence. The establishment doesn’t have too much work to work on [do]. My work is just to rebrand and revamp my hotel, while I’m setting up my coffee shop,” she continued.

“So, weigh in, feel free to let me know what to do. There’s so much to do with this space, and please send all your love and prayers because I need them. I’m just a girl,” she concluded.

MORE ON THOBEKA’S MOTHER AND THE HOTEL

Thobeka’s mother, Ntombimpela “Nto” Majozi, is the founder of Nto’s Boutique Hotel, which generally receives positive reviews from guests.

The hotel is located in the affluent Umhlanga Rocks area, with their family home located right next door.

The Majozis, whose matriarch marked her 95th birthday in March 2026, faced a storm when Nto was embroiled in an R24 million scandal, which led to her arrest in 2020.

According to IOL, she and other catering service providers paid bribes to secure lucrative government catering contracts.

In December 2022, the beach closure affected the hotel and the general hospitality sector in Durban because of the E. coli outbreak.

During an interview with SABC News, Nto explained how the closure of beaches impacted her business.

She said her hotel had secured many bookings in December; however, since the beaches were closed, guests cancelled their trips because their purpose for visiting Durban was to enjoy the beach.

However, the business soon peaked during the Easter period, and it was fully booked until July 2023.
